What is a Base-64 Bitmap Decoder?

This online program decodes base64 data that contains a previously base64-encoded bitmap image (an image with .bmp extension). Once decoded, the bitmap is displayed in the output preview area. The base64 encoding is a neat way to represent bitmaps (that are binary files) in the form of a character sequence (that are text files). Transmitting bitmaps as plain text is very useful as you don't have to deal with binary encoding problems, such as null bytes and endianness of the data. An encoded base64 bitmap uses 64 different 7-bit basic ASCII characters. This tool accepts base64 data of any length and it also handles optional line breaks every 76 characters or less (as specified in MIME RFC). If you're working with base64 data URLs, then it can also decode them.

Decode Bitmap Data URI
In this example, the input base64 string has the uniform resource identified (URI) scheme as a prefix. We know that this string contains is a bitmap format image because the MIME type says "image/bmp". When this base64 string is converted back to a visible image, we see that it's a drawing of a camping tent and mountains.
